Miscellaneous

I'm going to put all of the interesting things that don't need their own special category here.

vertreins&romal-an.jpg (159200 bytes)

These leather reins and romal are a great alternative to braided rawhide. They require much less care than rawhide reins and you won't have to worry about an unexpected rain shower damaging them. A downpour couldn't hurt these. They are made of two thicknesses of harness leather sewn together and then edged and worked until they are round. The romal is cut slightly wider, so it has an oval appearance rather than being round like the reins. Loops are built into the ends of the reins for rein chain attachment to the bit.

This rein and romal design is not new nor are they original to us. My father saw many of these in use in the 1940s and 50s. They were quite popular with many working cowboys at that time.

reinconnectorcu-an.jpg (266364 bytes) Here is a close up view of the flexible Indian tan connector between the reins and romal. The knots are kangaroo. This photo also gives a good view of the the roundness of the reins and the shape of the romal..
hornwrap-an.jpg (276850 bytes) Horn wraps are one of those things that need to be replaced from time to time. horn wraps are usually 1-3/4" wide to 2"wide and about 7' long. These are the usual "mulehide" horn wrap material that is rough on both sides. These wraps have skived edges for a smooth fit and are ready to go on your saddle.
